Albert Nahman Plumbing & Heating - Effects of Ignoring Sewer Problems

There are plenty of good reasons to keep your sewer in good condition. Sewer problems that go unattended can eventually require an expensive replacement. When problems do arise, they can have nasty effects, like backed up water and unpleasant smells.

Many plumbing problems are mysterious, because the pipes are hidden in walls or under your house. Having a sewer inspection done can sometimes be the only way to identify problems before they become serious.

Plumbing and Sewer Problems

A backed up drain is a common problem. Not fixing it means that there is constantly water around your drain, which can lead to dangerous bacteria and mold growth. These can cause health problems, so call a professional drain cleaner to get your drain flowing again. If your sink, tub, or toilet isn’t draining correctly and a plumbing snake doesn’t work to clear it, then you will need to have a professional drain cleaning service take care of it. If your drain is fully clogged and you try to run a caustic liquid drain cleaner down it, then you can cause severe damage to your pipes and make the standing water toxic to your health.

Bad Smells

If there is a bad smell coming from your floor drain, then it is likely that the trap underneath the drain has dried out. Without water as a buffer, methane gas from your sewer can up through the drain. This needs to be fixed immediately, as methane and other gasses are harmful to your health.

Ways to Avoid Plumbing and Sewer Problems

Must drain problems can be avoided by keeping out objects and substances that lead to their blockage. Make sure your drains have filters on them to trap hair and chunks of soap. If you are cooking with meats or anything that involves the production of grease, then make sure you collect it or let it cool and then throw it away in your trash. Never dump it down the drain.

If you suspect a sewer problem or have a drain that is clogged up, then don’t ignore it. It is sure to cause serious damage the longer you let it go. Schedule a sewer inspection or have a drain cleaning professional fix the problem immediately. Albert Nahman Plumbing & Heating can inspect your sewer, clean your drains, and take care of other plumbing problems you are experiencing. Albert Nahman Plumbing & Heating - How Does a Tankless Water Heater Work?

A standard tank water heater stores water and is constantly heating this water. A tankless water heater, on the other hand, provides hot water on demand. Instead of heating water all of the time regardless of use, a tankless water heater heats water only as you need it. To learn more, read on:

How It Works

A tankless water heater works by heating the water immediately as it is needed with a small but powerful gas burner. After you turn on your tap, the flow of water triggers the flame to begin heating the water. When you change the temperature or turn the tap off, the water stops being heated.

This simple system stands to save you a lot on your utility bills, since you only pay for the energy you need. With a traditional hot water tank heater, you’ll be paying for your hot water regardless of your use. A typical tank water heater has an “energy factor” (EF) of about .63. By comparison, the plumbing EF of a tankless water heater is about .84 and sometimes as high as .90.

Other Benefits

With a tankless hot water heater, you’ll never run out of hot water as you would with a traditional hot water heater.  Moreover, a tankless water heater system takes up very little space and most units can be installed outside on the home’s exterior.

Albert Nahman Plumbing & Heating - How to Conserve Water at Home

Most everyone recognizes the need to conserve water whenever possible, but many of us don’t really know the best way to do it. This video offers some simple tips to help you reduce your water use at home and eliminate water waste.

In the bathroom, for example, turn off the water while you’re brushing your teeth. A low-flow showerhead will cut your water usage by up to 10,000 gallons per year and will save you at least 10% on your heating bill. Putting an aerator on your faucet will get you more pressure with less water. Put some stones in a milk jug and place it in your toilet tank to displace the water. Reduce the time you spend showering by 2 minutes.

Other suggestions include a “waterless carwash” to save water on washing your car. This method uses little to no water at all, by using just a spray bottle and a rag to wash your car.

One point mentioned in the video is to make sure you have no leaky drains or faucets, as these can be major sources of wasted water. If you do have a leak, then contact Albert Nahman Plumbing & Heating and get it fixed today. Check out our website or call us at (510) 843-6904.
